Welcome fellow humans to the writing is on the wall radio broadcast coming to you from WHKW 1220 a Salem radio station. I’m your host TA teachers assistant. This program is a non-religious non-spiritual investigation of everything we can discern that was created, recorded, and modeled for a us in the Bible. Those few words say a tremendous amount. We don’t realize it. We’re used to hearing a lot of words with very little content in them. And that’s one of our biggest problems Genesis, which starts our Bible has an awful lot of content for very few words, totally separate from what we do to completely now in the fewest amount of words possible, they deliver the entire opportunity that mankind has. We did not realize it was an opportunity until Moses framed that for us and Deuteronomy, Moses did not realize it was an opportunity until after his conversation with God and he had more than one, but he had to first discover who God was. And that is that introduction is something that is recorded for us in Exodus three. And it’s something you should read because when God comes into your life, unden by you. It’s shocking. Something that you weren’t sure really existed. All of a sudden is addressing you and you need to get with a program.

And Moses did Moses being human though, eventually screwed up and could not go into the promised land, but that’s, you know, we’re all human. So one of the things we’re gonna talk about tonight is Colossians two, starting with verse 16. Now, the reason we’re gonna talk about that is because this is where Paul tries to separate the things that are godly with the things that are man. Now it’s not the only place, but this is where I found it to be the most pointed, not the most succinct, but the most ignore what men are telling you and listen to what the Bible says. And we say that to one another and in our churches and in our fellowship and our daily lives. And we think we mean it, but we don’t, we don’t really mean it. And so that’s what this section is about. It’s supposed to make you look inside yourself and realize that the thing you do at the top of your head and where your soul resides are different.

So he starts off cautions two 16, telling people don’t allow yourself to be judged by other humans for your participant patient in religious festivals, a new moon celebration or a Sabbath day. In other words, going to church is not an indication of how deeply oriented you may be towards God’s word and the opportunity that God offered us. Most people, however, are not. They aren’t even curious about it. They go to church to feel good, to be reassured that they’re doing the right thing by other humans who have religious instruction for their background and at least 2000 years in the, for Christians of salesmanship and excuse making and, and figuring things out and doing it incorrectly. Unfortunately. But trust me, I’m know what I’m doing. And the Bible tells you very succinctly trust, only in the Lord. Your God do not put your faith in prince nor in any son of man. And those are smallest. And so all in. But when we ignore that, because our daily lives are taken up by other people, other humans, and their reflection on us, of what they feel and what they expect us to feel, what they want to draw out of us. We respond to that and we are locked into our human relationships and understandings. And this is exactly what Paul is telling you not to do.

Verse 18, do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you. Such a person also goes into great tea deal about what they have seen. They’re puffed up with idle notions by their unspiritual mind. Now, a lot of these people attend church and they think they are the cats Meow when it comes to being pillars of the church. And I’m sure they donate a lot of money. They get a lot of their energy and you certainly get a lot of their opinions, but these are the people that Paul specifically warned you about. And in other places, he warned you about them in church, but this is just in general. They don’t have to actually be in the church with you. They don’t have to be a brother other, other, but they are. And I quote, puffed up with idle notions by their unspiritual mind verse 18, they have lost connection with the head from whom the whole body supported and held together by its ligaments and sins grows as God causes it to grow.

And that is the body of man in Christ. Okay. Now that’s a religious concept and that’s something you have to understand that humans have religious concepts. It is our go-to. When we find something that we don’t understand, and we want to be closer to God, then we fit, figure out a religious method of reaching that instead of just opening our hearts and doing, as God told us to do, which was search for him wholeheartedly without reservation. And he would let us find him. We don’t do that though. And I know that what I’m telling you this evening sounds like a sermon, a religious instruction, because we’re human. We hear it that way, but this is from the Bible.

And most sermons are, but they are human understandings presenting to other humans from the Bible. And those understandings are not always correct. Jesus was very plain when he was talking with his disciples and they wanted to know why was he sent John 7 24? He laid it out, but it’s so plain. We don’t get it. He told him to stop judging by outward appearance. Instead judge correctly, we don’t know what the correctly was. He told us, but we didn’t pick up on it all through the Bible. Paul is trying to instruct us this too, but he’s going about it with a religious intonation, which is what we hear because we are human. So I’m sure you’ve heard that cats and dogs and other animals here in spectrums, that we don’t dog whistles. Everybody knows about those. You can blow on ’em and a human won’t hear it, but a dog will respond when you need to think of perspective, a human perspective. And we automatically go to the human perspective that we call religion. Now, religion doesn’t have to be God centered. It could be the NFL, or it could be NASCAR, or it could be one of the communism or one of the other evil relay progressivism.

And I know that there are very nice people out here who do not believe that being a progressive or a, what was the a, not a moderate, but someone who is not conservative is not evil. They just have a different opinion. Well, there’s only one opinion really that counts and that’s God’s anyhow, verse 20 Colosians two. Since you died with Christ to the elemental spiritual forces of this world, why as though you still belong to the world, do you submit to its rules? That’s something you need to talk about with your loved ones and think about very specifically, cuz none of us wants to be seen as crazy or out there or non-compliant. I know that when I go into a store, I’ll put on a mask during these COVID times. Not because I’m afraid of what I might get, but because other people are afraid of what I might give them and I don’t wanna hear about it. So I comply, but it’s not because I think it’s a serious issue. Those people who are self-righteous will always find something to be self-righteous about. And that’s practically what the entire new Testament is about. 22, these rules, which have to do with things that are all destined to perish with use are based on Mely, human commands and teachings. Do you understand that the more time that you take up out of your life, that you waste the opportunity that you waste by taking up your time with merely human commands and teachings

Is taking time away from you, discovering what God wanted you to know And what God wanted you to not know, cannot be found in any church. In any religion. It’s in the Bible.

Churches are supported by erected, by religions. They get money from all the people that are members. The church sends them money. They’re cut. And they have plenty of people who are self-righteous morally superior and want to run your life. And they rarely, if other look at the Bible and then mainly at the cover, they’ll have one nearby. So if you’re interested, you can look, see I have a Bible, but they don’t read it. Certainly not for content. And they don’t try to understand what’s in there. Even though our opportunity may be coming to a close. Now it’s not anything soon. I don’t think, but I saw on a billboard on my way to the studio this evening, a billboard that says I’m coming soon, unquote, supposedly signed Jesus.

Let’s hope not. We got a lot to do a lot to do. And if Jesus comes back to us as Jesus, from what he said, it looks as we failed now, he’s if he stays with humanity as a spirit, a supporter, our loving intercessor, then we’re good to go. But if he needs to find human form again, according to the Bible, that’s our condemnation. No need to dwell on that though. Right? Cuz we’ve still got a little bit of time. Verse 23, Colossians two such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom with their self imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body. But they lack any value in restraining sens indulgence.

Yeah, but it looks good. And it sounds good. Like wearing a mask. Every time you go into a facility, safe facility, they take your temperature or into a health facility. They’ll take your temperature and they do it without touching you. For the most part, they’ll ask you questions, which you have to answer. They haven’t started to hook people up to lie detector test yet. But that may come yet. Are you fit? Do you participate? Do you obey the human commands and teachings? Are you part of the world? Paul said not to be part of the world.

Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you. Now the angels he was talking about were related to God. The angels, the people who operate state facilities are talking about are their elected representatives that sign their paycheck. But if you died with Christ, the elemental spiritual forces of this world, why as though you still long to the world, do you submit to its rules? Well, I told you about why I submit to that one rule, but I make sure that everybody who knows me understands that I’m only submitting because I don’t want other people’s fear to increase.

But the fact of the matter is us. That COVID 19, the distance between conservatives and liberals, the distance between the people who approve of the bankrupting of the United States of the individual, people who worked hard and saved their money and have elected the individual. Who’s the head of government now to PPRI more money to spend more money and to give it to his buddies. The people who allowed that to happen are complicit and things are not going to be better until we quit shooting ourselves in the foot. So I wanna tell you, I had we studied Asians five again today and we will go back to that. But I told a story about young people I hoped would begin to return to the church and we had to have something to tell them and show them that wasn’t the same old thing that they rejected and their parents rejected and left the church for 20, 30 years ago, I told ’em about a young woman who’s middle class, 20 years old, unmarried got pregnant by her boyfriend, caught him cheating a couple times with other girls, her age when she was pregnant, forgave, him went to the hospital to have the baby called him on the way.

And he was too busy to come, but he would stop by later.

So she had the baby they’re still not married. Baby’s about two years old now. And a neighbor came to her neighbor who had a conflict with her boyfriend, came to her and asked, did she know about how often he was over at her house? When she was at work, started talking to her, her mother was taking care of the baby at their house. She still lived with her mom. And she started talking to her other friends and discovered that he was continuing to have affairs with other women, but he had slowed it down recently. And she was hopeful that he was going to grow up a little.

And then she discovered who he was having the main affair with her 40 year old mother. That’s why he cut off all the others, cuz it was safe just to go over to her house and have sex with her mother when she wasn’t there have sex with her when she was there. Now, as I said, these people would be considered middle class. They live in a nice house. Her mother of course, long divorced. We know why, but the fact that they’re morally ban up and means that they need someone in their lives. They need God, but they need to address their own moral bankruptcy and the place that they would normally come for. Something like that is the church. Well, the church is not prepared not to teach them the Bible mention to them the opportunity that exists and what they need to do in order to fulfill their lives. With that opportunity. All they have are sales, speeches, and equivocations that they have built up over the last 1800 years. So it’s time to get into the Bible and tear it apart and get all the information out of it that we can and present that to people who are looking for direction and will not be satisfied with religious attitudes. So we’re about to go to the break. And when we come back, we’ll talk about the bankruptcy of our churches. And we’ll also talk about Ephesians five, starting with first one. Welcome back. Fellow humans to the writing. It’s on the wall. Radio broadcast coming to you from w H K w 1220 a Salem radio station. All right, we’re gonna start off this second half of this evening’s program with Ephesians five verse one, Paul starts it off with a bang imitate God. Now how do you imitate? God, you don’t have the power. You don’t have the knowledge. You can’t be everywhere or see everything. So how do you imitate God earlier? I mentioned John 7 24. I’ll read it again. Stop judging by outward appearance. Instead judge correctly. Our entire opportunity here on planet earth is to respond to the situations that arise and to judge correctly.

Now, how do you judge correctly? You have to have parameters. You have to have a decision making matrix cuz that’s what judgment is. Judgment is making a decision. Well now what does God deal with when it comes to making decisions? Does he deal with the opinions of humans? Does he deal with the person of humans? Does he make judgements saying, well, you know, you’re only human. I’ll cut you some slack. You are not gonna find that anywhere in the Bible, God loves you. He wants you to so exceed, but he cannot grow up for you. And that’s what this entire 6,000 years so far has been about. Giving us the opportunity to mature and to grow up. Most people don’t realize it’s a 10 commandments because five of ’em are personal and five of ’em are corporate. The entire reason for those 10 commandments is to help us live with one another so that we could develop a civilization.

Now, what does this civilization do? It allows us to multi lie. We can feed ourselves better. We can protect ourselves better. We can grow and we can develop. We can mature. We can get to the point where we don’t have to worry about our food. Every day we can develop science, we can develop compassion. We can feed one, another house, one another. As long as those people that we are feeding in housing, get with the program and help us maximize our opportunity. Our responses to the opportunity God has given us. And those responses are not to fight and kill and Mae and destroy and take advantage of one another. They are to lift one another up to support at one another while we all search for what it is that will allow us to be the responsible humans that God wants us to be. How do I know that it’s in the Bible? Isn’t that amazing? The Bible not only shows us what to do, but how to do it gives us examples and then models. What will happen to those who ignore those examples?

That should be enough, but it never has been. We pick and choose what we like and what we don’t let. And our ignorance continues because we don’t put it together as an entity, as a whole. Now the old Testament is written up through Deuteronomy. One word, paints, a picture and a picture’s worth 10,000 words, but you’ve got to be looking at it correctly to see the picture. You have to shine the light of context onto the words we don’t do that. We turn those words and those concepts over to people who translate the ’em into language is easier for us to understand. And because we want that and they want to give that to us. They cut out some of the meaning of those very important words. Now I’ve told you this before and you can look it up, but the term worship today in 2021, we think of like the Wayne’s world. I think it was, we’re not worthy. We’re not worthy. Oh, we’re not worthy, but that is maybe five to 10% tops of what the term worship means.

The original full definition for worship is working in the vineyard of the master to provide a finished solution. Now, when they wrote this, the vineyard of the master, God was the master. The vineyard was earth. We were put here, given the opportunity to respond to reality, not to perception, not to belief, not to other humans, but to the reality that was given to us as our right. And we were supposed to react to it and with it, develop and, and understand everything that was given to us in the Bible so that we could maximize our response and grow up.

We do not know what God has in store for us. After we have reached that plateau, that is not in the Bible, what’s in the Bible is seeking my faith. I will let anybody who searches for me wholeheartedly find me. So your graduation will be attended by God. No other human will be there. Just you and God. Now you’ll graduate into a space where there are other humans, but it, at the moment of your graduation, the moment you grow up, it will be you and God. Now I know this is a promise that even religious people and they want there are really great at promising things have never come up with. And that’s because they don’t understand what’s in the Bible. And the reason they don’t understand is because they don’t read it for content. Now there are people out there who do read it and are concerned about the content. A lot of them are, are, well. Some of them at least were trained in seminary and they can look up all the references that are in seminary and it bothers them. They know that there’s more there, that they are not understanding and they don’t know what to do to make that switch to understanding this morning. In my Bible study at my church, we studied Ephesians five again, and I pointed out verse one again, imitate God.

Do you think Paul all understood what God was and is? And that there was a method to our learning so that we could imitate God, which is what he told us to do. I’m sure if I asked you, you wouldn’t know what it was. Well, it turns out that Jesus was the translator between God and humanity. Now a lot of people think when they think that Jesus was sent to earth, like he had a big post-it note on what to do. Paul seemed to think that he did it as a, he came to earth and grew as throughout being human. As a point of humility to say, I am with you.

That’s correct. But it’s not all of it. Not. If you read Jesus’s words, he had to understand what our stopping place was. Where were we held up? Why couldn’t we get with the program? The had God had laid out, what did we not understand? Why didn’t we respond? And it wasn’t just the Jews, but the Jews were the cork in the bottle. They were keeping God to themselves. And that was not meant to happen. But when Jesus got here, that’s exactly what was happening. Very few people outside of jewelry knew about the God of the Hebrews.

And that was their failing. They wanted to own God. And the, the access to God. That’s why they still don’t really approve or look for people to switch and become Jews. If you have enough money, enough fame, enough, whatever. You might find someone who will assist you. But the problem is that they wanted to keep God to themselves. So how could you imitate God if you don’t know what it is that God holds as is important and what he uses to judge to make decisions. Well, there’s one thing you should know. God does not base make decisions based on human perception. Oh, I better not do this or they’re not gonna look at it, right? No, that is something that is in Deuteronomy, Deuteronomy one, the Jews of all stupid idiotic, childish, pranks, threatened to embarrass God because they were his chosen people. If they didn’t get what they were on it from him, can you imagine anything? Oh man, just, it just, it amazes me. But I understand. I’m just grateful to God that he put up with us. So by the time that Paul came and you realize he was a Christian Hunter, He was out trying to root Christianity out of jewelry because he thought that Jews should remain pure until of course he had a little problem on the road, discovered that not only was he hardheaded and not listening and not paying attention, but that he had made up his mind in absence of the facts, which is something that we all as humans do. Hey, that’s sounds good. And that’s exactly what I read to you from Colosians too. Thank goodness. I got a computer. I can go back to it.

So back to Ephesians five one, imitate God, just those two words. How do I imitate God? Well, God deals with reality. So you should. Jesus discovered our weakness, our stopping point. And of course the cork were the Jews and the bottle to God were the Jews. And he basically pulled that cork out with the great commission. And he told the people to go forward and spread the word that were associated with him and could re basically tell people what they had seen and heard, even though they didn’t understand it. So it’s important for you to under, to know, understand that it’s important for other people to know of it, even if they don’t understand what it is or why it is. And that’s why there are two levels of Christianity. Those who believe in his name and those who do as he does, if you wanna be a disciple, you know, to do as he does and to understand why, if you wanna be an apostle, all you gotta do is spread the word.

Now we’ve always said that the holy spirit will deal with the individual. And that is true, but it’s not like in a blinding flash of light, he will stimulate that individual to dig until they understand. And one, they understand if they’re one chosen by God, before their birth, they won’t just be a support system. The responsibility for actually pulling back the ignorance of humanity will be theirs. Not easy to do cuz we are ignorant children still. Well, the thing that’s important is on, he continues on and lots of great lessons. The second half of Ephesians five is the advice to wifes and husbands, which the, it causes a lot of problems when the preacher stands up to preach on it and they don’t much anymore. I don’t think, I can’t imagine a pastor preaching on this from the pulpit. I mean the pews are already pretty empty they would be evener .

But the first verse in this section, verse 21 is the most important one place yourselves under each other’s authority out of respect for Christ. In other words, we know you don’t don’t understand why we’re asking you to do this, but just out of respect for Christ, do it and work at it and dig. It’s the only way you will come to understand why the very next verse 22 wives place yourselves under your husband’s authority, as you have placed yourselves under the Lord’s authority. So if you are a Christian woman and you have given your pledge to Christ, then you look at your husband as the leader of your family, responsible to, to God and you support him.

And you urge him to do the right thing and you help structure his life so that he can do the right thing. And you reward him for doing the right thing and you basically move your family forward. by being such a support that your husband would not think of doing anything else. He’s not tempted to even look at anything else. He wants to be the man. You want him to be before God through Christ. And you can end that section right there, as far as I’m concerned. If you understand that and you can, as we’d say today, get down with that, then you don’t need to follow the rest of it is just trauma to get people to follow those words. And that concept they’re just additional allowances.

But if you can support your husband to point where he does not want to do anything, but be the man that you think he is before God, then you have succeeded. Your family will do well. And we can go back to five , which is imitate God, since you are the children he loves live and love is Christ also loved us. He gave his life for us as an offering and sacrifice a soothing aroma to God. Now that’s a term concept you have not heard since the old Testament. That’s not one that they used much except at the temple in Jesus’ time, we don’t use it at all today unless we’re discussing the Bible.

But that is where God told the Jews that he did not care for their sacrifices. And no one tried to figure out why, but he said that the burnt offerings were an abomination to his nose. And that’s where the opposite of that. The soothing aroma comes and that’s where the Franken Sensen comes. And that’s where all of the temples spices and that come from. Anyway, the important part is if you make decisions based on reality, rather than perceptions by other humans who have, have infiltrated your human men and got you tied into the human network so that you ignore what is necessary between you and God, then you have failed. And Paul talks about that in Colosians two. And that’s why here in Ephesians five, he says to imitate, God respond to reality, not to human perception.

So our time is coming to a close this evening, but I think we all need to address the bankrupt moral code that we have replaced the 10 commandments and our desire to attend to God through church and through Jesus. And we need to replace it with the reality of what’s in the Bible. It’s not good enough to want to be good. We have to understand what Jesus was telling us and why he was telling it to us.
